BIO
Filippos Tsitsopoulos (b. 1967) lives and works between London and Athens. He studied at the School of Fine Arts, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, before continuing his education at the Complutense University of Madrid, where he completed his PhD in 1996. Tsitsopoulos is a multidisciplinary artist working across painting, digital art, video, performance, theatre, and installation. Since 1990, his practice has focused on exploring the intersections between visual art and performative media, with a particular emphasis on interactive and immersive forms of theatre and video-based performance. From 1991 to 2012, he lived and worked in Madrid, where he developed an extensive body of work presented through exhibitions, performances, workshops, and video installations. Between 2005 and 2012, he worked at the Prado Museum, contributing to the museum’s Art Department, collections-related projects, and educational workshops.
His installations and performative works, often informed by Baroque aesthetics and dramaturgy, have been presented internationally at institutions and events including the Serpentine Gallery, London—with the support of Hans Ulrich Obrist for the film and performance project KAGE (K for Kott)—as well as exhibitions curated by Jan Hoet and collaborations with critic and curator Fernando Castro Flórez in Madrid. His work has also been shown at FACT Liverpool, Bluecoat, Frieze Art Fair (London), Alte Nationalgalerie (Berlin), Tate Modern (London), Toynbee Studios, Artsadmin, and the Live Art Development Agency (LADA). Tsitsopoulos has collaborated with Jan Fabre and Joanna De Vos on Het Vlot. Kunst is (niet) eenzaam / The Raft. Art is (Not) Lonely, and has participated in numerous theatre and performance festivals across the United Kingdom, including the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Southbank Centre performance programmes, and events in Leeds and London. He has also collaborated with the historic BONE Performance Art Festival in Bern, working alongside Norbert Klassen and Black Market International.
In Greece, Tsitsopoulos has presented his work at a.antonopoulou.art gallery Batagianni gallery and Eleni Tseliou gallery, and in Madrid at Galería Rafael Pérez Hernando. In 2026, Tsitsopoulos presented his first solo exhibition and performance project at a.antonopoulou.art gallery in Athens, entitled Auction of Morality. His performances and installations have also been presented at the Athens Concert Hall (Megaron), in collaboration with Anna Kafetsi, Denys Zacharopoulos, and other leading curators and cultural figures.
