a.antonopoulou.art, located in the heart of Athens, is one of the longest-running independent galleries in Greece, promoting contemporary Greek and international artists through exhibits, events and showcases in its curated space as well as art fairs. The owner, Angeliki Ch. Antonopoulou, has been actively involved in contemporary art for the past thirty years. She was co-owner of the “Epikentro” gallery in Patras and Athens. Since 2000, using her experience from the past to face today’s challenges, she opened her own space under the name a.antonopoulou.art.
Committed to supporting a visual dialogue with emerging and established artists working in a variety of media, the gallery presents an intensive program of monthly or bimonthly solo and group shows. Gallery artists have been featured in numerous internationally acclaimed exhibitions and events — such as the Venice Biennale, Venice Biennale of Architecture, Athens & Epidaurus festival, Guggenheim museum in Bilbao, dOCUMENTA 14, TATE Modern in London. Within the framework of its actions and orientations are also the production and organization of exhibitions in other spaces, indicatively — such as the exhibition entitled “WHAT REMAINS IS FUTURE”, curated by Nadjia Argyropoulou, in the context of the events “Patras Cultural Capital of Europe 2006”, hosted in the old Arsakeio school of Patras; and the art exhibition entitled “Book Mythologies. Contemporary Greek Artists”, curated by Efi Strouza, in the context of the events “Frankfurt 2001 Book Exhibition, Greece Honored Country”.
The gallery over the years has participated in various national and international art fairs, including Art Athina and Art Thessaloniki in Greece and abroad at Fresh Paint Art Fair in Tel-Aviv – Israel, Arco Madrid – Spain, VOLTA, Basel – Switzerland.
